Work in Progress: The Roksolana Corset

Inspired by exquisite Turkish Iznik pottery.

A Corset fit for a Sultana

I want to introduce a longterm commission I am creating for my repeat client Elena. She visited the beautiful country of Türkiye and fell in love with the exquisite Iznik pottery there. When she returned home, she asked me if I would make a corset inspired by this wonderful tradition. Iznik pottery has a remarkable history and in the process of studying it and looking for the right inspiration for Elena’s corset, I learned that a Ukrainian woman named Roksolana ended up becoming a very important and culturally significant Sultana. A very bingeworthy, and yes sometimes a bit silly soap opera was even made about the subject called Magnificent Century. Don’t blame me if you loose track of time watching it, you have been warned! ha ha!

Roksolana, or as she was later named Hürrem Sultan, was a great patron of this style of pottery and had a lot commissioned for the palace. I made a TikTok to show you this beautiful pottery here: Roksolana Corset Background. I am creating this corset on white leather with French silk embroidery threads. It’s a rather painstaking process using genuine couture techniques. Stay tuned as to follow as the commission shapes up and if you wouldn’t mind, add me on TikTok too! I’m trying to grow my following so I can unlock some more features and better organize my content there!
